How To Get Your Prescription

Irrespective if you purchase or not from a high street optician, regulations entitle you to a free copy of your glasses prescription.

To order with Specsvision all you need to have is a copy of your prescription from your optician from an eye test, or providing it is less than two years old you can use it to order online with us.

Your optician is obliged by law to give you a clear copy of your prescription after your eye test, so remember to ask for it. In addition, you can ask for your pupillary distance (PD) measurement from your optician though please note that optician's are not obliged to give this. The PD is the measurement between the centres of your two eye pupils.

If the PD is not available there are different options available to obtain this measurement, alternatively we can take this measurement from your existing glasses - your PD doesn’t change from one prescription to the next. If you would rather not send them, we could then use the appropriate average PD for single vision distance lenses or the appropriate average PD for single vision reading lenses to complete your order (based on known survey of 4,000 people).

Another simple but effective technique is to obtain the PD yourself or with the assistance from another individual, firstly please ensure the frame is sitting where it feels comfortable and at the correct position on your nose. Then, stand up straight in front of a mirror, making sure that your head is not tilting forwards or backwards. Using a marker, place a small dot directly in front of each pupil and using a ruler calculate the distance, and thats all you need to do.
